Census Research

A search of Frederick County Virginia 1782 census found no DUDLEYs listed (any spelling). However, some state census records were destroyed during the War of 1812. The FamilySearch Wiki for Frederick County lists the 1790, 1800 census were lost.[[Frederick County, Virginia Wiki.]]

NOTE: His marriage 25 May 1817 in Highland County, Ohio means the only census year to check is 1810.

Conclusion:

Henry DUDLEY is the ONLY Dudley to appear in the Frederick County, Virginia 1810 census. My brick wall John DUDLEY, born in 1796, could be 13, 14 or 15 depending on when the census was taken and the month of his birth. But he would not have been 16. Henry DUDLEY had two male children between 10-15.

Given ALL the DUDLEYs you see above, time research John DUDLEY’s parentage will, by this researcher, be on Henry DUDLEY was born between 1766 and 1784 as right now he is the most likely father of John DUDLEY who migrated from Virginia to Ohio to Indiana.
